Dave Mullen Receives Humanitarian Award

Dave Mullen was recently honored with the Dave Beach Humanitarian Award, which is given to an individual who embodies Dave Beach’s (also a Hall of Fame member) lifelong dedication to serving our running community. Like Dave Beach, Dave Mullen steps in whenever there’s a need, truly exemplifying humanitarianism. In 2020, Dave was also inducted into the Mountain Goat Run Hall of Fame.

Dave’s involvement with the Mountain Goat Run began in the early 1990s. Though he only ran and finished the race three times, he has been an integral part of the event since 1995. As a beloved Race Announcer, he has missed only one or two races. Dave‘s experience spans numerous roles: mile split timer coordinator, training run coordinator, marketer (even in freezing weather at other events), liaison with city officials, course marker, race expo organizer, race day setup and teardown supervisor, and finish line chute coordinator. He also served as race coordinator and Race Director for several years.

Dave was a founding member of the Mountain Goat Run Foundation Board, serving as Vice President—a role he also held on the Syracuse Track Club Board. His race director duties extended beyond the Mountain Goat Run; he was Race Director or Co-Director for the Anheuser Busch Bud Runs and the Welch Allyn 5K, and he continues to support many other Syracuse Track Club races. Currently, Dave is a member of the Grumpy Old Men, the Syracuse Track Men’s Supervet Mountain Racing Team.

Beyond his contributions to running, Dave has spent five years running the instrumental and orchestral music programs at Hamilton Central Schools and has a 36-year career in wealth management. For the past 17 years, he has served as President and Chief Compliance Officer of Hazard & Siegel Advisory Services.
